Happy Memorial Day

In honor of today being the unofficial start of summer, I thought I’d share some pictures of my brand new swimsuit which is both summery and patriotic.

Just makes you want to go jump in the pool, doesn’t it?  Heck, with shoes, stockings, drawers, a chemise, a corset, two layers of wool, and a hat on, I wanted to jump in the pool after just modeling it for a few minutes.

If you’d like to see this 1890s bathing costume (made by the lovely and talented Rachel) in person along with many other outfits documenting the fashions of the 1860s through the 1890s, mark your calendars for the Littleton Museum’s fashion show at 7pm on Saturday, July 10th.

It’s finished!

Well, the knitting part is at any rate.  It still needs to be felted, for which I will require the use of NurseK’s washing machine.  Also, a button – I think this bag is just screaming for a giant button. And maybe some crocheted trim around the top in the contrasting color?  Ok, so maybe not that finished after all, but it’s Friday and this is the best I’ve got.

Pattern: Mason-Dixon Buttonhole Bag

Yarn: Patons Classic Wool in Peacock (two and a half skeins) held double and Lion Brand Landscapes in Country Sunset (two skeins)

Needles: US 11 circular

Modifications: I doubled all of the stitch and row counts to make up for the smaller yarn and needles.

Not much else to say about it so I guess I’d better go finish my FO.

This evening while we were eating dinner, CodeMonkey looked down at his feet, which were propped up on a ottoman, and observed “My feet are really far away . . .”  No, he had not been drinking.  Yes, it has been that kind of a week.  Happy Friday!

My current mindless knitting:

It’s a Mason-Dixon Buttonhole Bag in Patons Classic Wool in Peacock and Lion Brand Landscapes in Country Sunset.  The yarn is smaller than what the pattern calls for so I’m doubling all of the stitch counts.  It’s a good thing it’s pretty mindless because I’m working on a deadline and most of my knitting time lately seems to coincide with my Lost watching time (CodeMonkey and I are working our way thorough the series on DVD).  This is perfect TV knitting, except for when they speak Korean and I have to read subtitles . . .

I hope everyone had a wonderful Mother’s Day.  CodeMonkey and I celebrated by going hiking with his parents at Roxborough Sate Park.  It was a little bit overcast, but otherwise a lovely day.
