A woven FO, even!  My very first weaving project is finished, off the loom, washed, and oh so pretty (in my entirely biased opinion).

It was woven from Hemp Yarn in Chili Red using a 6 DPI reed, direct tie-up, straight draft, and a 1/2 twill pattern.  The hemp is a little too scratchy to wear, so I’m thinking it’s going to be a table runner.

That Time of Year . . .

It’s that time of year again.  You know, the time of year when I confuse an award-winning, best-selling author by making her hold my knitting while having her picture taken.  The Exile was released yesterday and the charming and talented Diana Gabaldon gave a talk at the Tattered Cover tonight.  MommaCodeMonkey came with NurseK and me this time.

Diana told entertaining stories about trying to explain to a heterosexual male illustrator exactly what Jamie’s butt looks like and read bits from book eight.

Then she signed books and very graciously held my sock for a picture.  As well as the sock of the knitter in line in front of me.  If we keep doing this to her, she’s going to start expecting it.

Please excuse the funny face I’m making.  There were some technical difficulties with the camera and I had to hold the smile for a bit.  Diana, on the other hand, looks great.  They must teach you how to hold a smile in author school, along with how to sign 400 autographs without your hand falling off.

PS: Just for the record, I’m not the only one who does this and Diana Gabaldon is definitely not the most unlikely celebrity to be asked to hold a sock.

Say what?

This morning in our kitchen-

CodeMonkey: Standing in front of the pantry, intently perusing the box of Frosted Mini Wheats

Me: Lovingly shoving him out of the way  “Move!  Some of us have to go into outer space today.”

CodeMonkey: “Yeah?  Well some of us are made out of jam today.”

I have no explanation other than this:

(Warning: This clip contains irreverence, mild profanity, and a transvestite)

Wrap it up

Wow, only a week left until summer is officially over.  I guess I’d better finish my summer catch-up.  The final big thing we did this summer was a family vacation.  CodeMonkey, his parents, and I all went to Yellowstone and the Grand Tetons together.  They’d all been before, but it was my first time and it was awesome!

We saw mountains:

And waterfalls:

And thermal features:

And interestingly colored water:

And flora:

And fauna:

And vistas:

And . . . you know what?  I took over 900 pictures.  You can see the rest of them over at my Flickr page if you want.
