I won!  The prize is . . .

. . . a pair of socks with slightly wonky toes (more on that later)!

Pattern: Woven Diamond Socks

Yarn: Berroco Pure Merino (discontinued) in Teal (8553) plus some scraps of Lana Grossa Cool Wool Merino Superfein in blue and green that I had kicking around in the stash.

Needles: US 5 double pointed needles

Notes: I knit these in a week for a sock-off and I’m very pleased about how quickly they went and how comfy they are.  I’m going to have to do more worsted weight socks.  I learned how to do a German twisted cast on for these and it’s my new favorite cast on.  These were also my first pair of top down socks unless you count the pair of Fuzzy Feet I made a billionty years ago.  So lots of learning going on here.  Overall I enjoyed the pattern.  The slip stitch diamond design was fun to knit and adds some visual interest to a solid colored yarn.  I just had a couple of slight issues.  First, the way the pattern is written for the heel flap is not super clear for someone who isn’t already familiar with knitting heel flaps (says the top down, heel flap knitting newbie).  Second, the pattern calls for 168 yards of yarn.  I had 184 yards and still had to do the last three inches or so of each toe in scrap yarn.  Oh well, it won’t show with shoes on.

Not much blogging, but a fair amount of knitting going on around here lately.  I’m going to try to do a bunch of FO Friday posts to wrap things up before the end of the year.  In the meantime, it’s a sock-off!  A completely pointless and arbitrary race to knit a pair of socks in a week?  Yes please!  The deadline is Friday and I’m halfway there.  Knit knit knit!

PS: Ignore the toe.  I had more yarn than the pattern called for.  The pattern lied.

The Little Pink Socks are done!

It is really hard to take a picture of your own feet.

Pattern: Plain old toe-up socks with short row heels and 2×2 ribbed cuffs

Yarn: Cascade Fixation in colorway 9674

Needles: Size 2.5 DPNs

Notes: Eh, they’re socks, not much else to say.

One of the many reasons I keep CodeMonkey around - to take pictures of my feet.

That Time of Year . . .

It’s that time of year again.  You know, the time of year when I confuse an award-winning, best-selling author by making her hold my knitting while having her picture taken.  The Exile was released yesterday and the charming and talented Diana Gabaldon gave a talk at the Tattered Cover tonight.  MommaCodeMonkey came with NurseK and me this time.

Diana told entertaining stories about trying to explain to a heterosexual male illustrator exactly what Jamie’s butt looks like and read bits from book eight.

Then she signed books and very graciously held my sock for a picture.  As well as the sock of the knitter in line in front of me.  If we keep doing this to her, she’s going to start expecting it.

Please excuse the funny face I’m making.  There were some technical difficulties with the camera and I had to hold the smile for a bit.  Diana, on the other hand, looks great.  They must teach you how to hold a smile in author school, along with how to sign 400 autographs without your hand falling off.

PS: Just for the record, I’m not the only one who does this and Diana Gabaldon is definitely not the most unlikely celebrity to be asked to hold a sock.
